PopCornucopia

PopCornucopia is all about free associative pop culture tidbits as they strike my fancy, just like kernels of corn exploding into fullness at a random and unpredictable pace. And of course, the cornucopia is the horn of plenty.

Amerie and Antonioni

In my other blog, there is an entry on shooting from the gun and the camera. To expand further on this there are a couple of other things worth checking out. Last night I watched City of God, a very good movie that also deals with this particular trope.

I mentioned Michalengelo Antonioni's film Blow-Up in that entry, and I was reminded of this again because I was watching Amerie's "Take Control" music video which pays homage to a key scene in the film where the photographer's eponymous blowing-up and magnifying scrutiny of photographs. It's just too bad Amerie didn't dress up like a mime or wrestle with another woman in colored tights. The music vid managed to receive an enthusiastic review from Entertainment Weekly. Did I also mention that she co-wrote the song with Cee-Lo Green (not to be confused with Skee-Lo of "I wish I was a little bit taller" fame)?

I am actually a fan of Amerie's. And the allusion to Blow-Up (A movie that I very much like) only adds fuel to the fire. The production of her music from Rich Harrison on her earlier albums and the others she's enlisted on her most recent effort is great! A lot of 80's throwback, hot syncopated beats and funky vibes all over the place. And the samples are so cool. I've been listening to her latest Album "Because I Love it." And let me tell you, I love it. I would be wittier and more expansive today, but I am very lazy right now.
